Trust me ladies, you do NOT want to be wearing heels during your ceremony, or reception for that matter. Not only should you consider that your balance will be way off, but you will be standing for a LONG time. This is even a chore for the most skilled heel-wearers, let alone the ones with child. I’m telling you from experience. At my wedding, I thought I could hang with my beautiful 4 inch pumps and well, SWOLLEN was not even close to what my feel were after just the ceremony. Not to mention that my legs were violently shaking for the last 10 minutes, through the first kiss, and all the way down the aisle. I know what you’re thinking, ‘No one noticed. It wasn’t that bad. You’re exaggerating.’ Nope. People came up to me after the ceremony to make sure I was all right. My mother-in-law kept asking me if I was hot the whole time and if I had eaten that morning. OF COURSE I HAD EATEN. When I’m pregnant, you can count on me to be eating pretty much the entire 9 months, with the exception of naps.
So, to get to the point, flats or kittens are definitely the way to go. They will keep you comfortable and happy.
There are several styles to choose from that will coordinate with the theme of your wedding. Let’s talk about those.
Ballerina flats are probably the most popular wedding shoe behind pumps because they bring a certain “fanciness” to the table. There are several style selections out there.
- Peep toe
- Key hole
- Mary Jane
Some of the super-cute summer wedding themes are Western or Country or Rustic. The details are what makes these weddings so awesome. I am seeing more and more brides wanting to wear cowboy boots under their dresses and I am LOVING it! They are adorable and comfortable for any line dancing you may participate in at the reception!
Kitten heels are fun and fancy, but when choosing them be sure you get a style that has a sturdy heel. You don’t want them to be so “kitten-y’ that they break or bend. Let’s face it, those babies are going to get some wear.
Another non-traditional wedding shoe brides are choosing is a nice, clean pair of sneakers. The most popular of them are Converse Chuck Taylors. I’ve seen them all over Etsy with awesome embroidery or screen printing with ‘Bride’ printed on the side or back. Other titles are also available for bridesmaids gifts. There’s grooms and groomsmen ones too!
Sandals are great all around for summer weddings. They will keep you cool and they come in tons of styles. Too many to mention to be honest. It’s all about your preference aesthetically, but please remember to consider comfort.
Wingtips or Oxfords
For a vintage-inspired wedding, wingtips are perfect. There’s not much more glamorous than the styles from the roaring twenties. Wingtips or Oxfords are what I like to call a “decorative sneaker,” meaning you can wear them on a date and it’s totally acceptable. There’s loopholes everywhere, people.
